Invitation.

The Han River Flood Control Office (HRFCO), a subsidiary organization of the Ministry of Land,

Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) marks the 40th anniversary this year since it established

the FCO in 1974 for flood management. The HRFCO has made many developments and

achievements in a wide range of sectors including not only flood and water resources

management, but also basic water studies and high quality information service.

The HRFCO has been installing rain radars nationwide for rainfall observation and use for the

water resources sector. Currently, rain radars at Imjin River, Biseul Mt., Sobaek Mt. are utilized

for flood forecast while rain radars at Mohu Mt. and Seodae Mt. will be operated from this year.

These high resolution radar data will serve as valuable data which can be efficiently utilized in

various sectors from water resources management to disaster prevention.

The 2014 International Workshop on Rain Radar and its Hydrological Application will be

attended by internationally renowned experts on rain radar operation, data quality

management and precipitation estimation and its use. The Workshop will provide a valuable

venue for communications and discussions which is aimed to share current issues and

technology development and thereby understanding the value of using radars and maximizing

the use of radar data.

I hope this Workshop will serve as a great opportunity for taking our rain radar and its

hydrological use to the next level. In addition, I hope that rain radar can play an important role

in enhancing water resources management and developing flood forecast technology.

I would like to cordially invite you to the workshop.

I expect that we will learn from each other and grow together.

Sincerely yours, Hajoon PARK

Director General of Han River Flood Control Office

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
